I know, I know! Talk about gag me with a pitch fork. Uh, Nicholas Sparks, enough said. What can I say, I have a MAJOR thing for Channing Tatum (yummy). So, I really wanted to see this movie. First, to see what the hype was about. Second, to stare at Channing without a shirt on. And third, to stare at Channing without a shirt on. That is when I decided I should read the book, then watch the movie.
I hate to say it, but the first half of the book was GREAT! The love, the passion, the devastation. If there is one thing that Sparks can do, its make ME (of all people) cry. The way these two characters felt about each other, well there is really no way to describe it. They are soul mates. True soul mates. Every part of these two individuals comes together to make a whole. I couldn't stop reading, as a matter of a fact I read the book in one evening, giving up ALL of my sleep to finish the book.
The second part of the book was much harder to read. They were apart, Savannah at home and John over seas. They continually write back and forth to each other, but it is not good enough. John makes a mistake, which ends the relationship. Although this is known throughout the entire book, it shattered my heart to see it all play out.
When i was done reading this book I felt as though I had just been broken up with. The ending was wonderful and horrifying at the same time. I will not say more on the ending, except it was different in the movie.
I hated the movie. Although Channing was a wonderful piece of Eye Candy... there was nothing else to it. It seemed as though Savannah was a bible pushing brat and all her and John shared was a summer fling. There was no passion. There was no love. But there was plenty of mopey devastation. The only thing I can say for the movie is that if the ending of the movie would have been the ending of the book, then the book would have been the best book I had ever read.
So if you plan to read this book, read it. But, then watch the last 15 minutes of the movie and substitute the movie ending for the book ending.
