And So Began My Love Affair With Water

I had originally bought Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan to read to my two sons (ages 6 and 3), but then I found that it was I who couldn't put the book down. I had made plans to read the book with the kids and then take them to see the movie.

So the book was completed and I was completely psyched to see the movie! And then, yes there is an and then, I WAS DEVASTATED! I suppose had I never read the book I would have thought the movie was awesome. Unfortunately, I had read the book. I have actually read all but the last book in the series, and I have to say the movie blew ass.

Yes, there was action, but all in the wrong places.

In the book Percy finds out he is a demigod. He realizes he is being hunted by mythological creatures and must now seek help. He finds that help at a place called Camp Half Blood, and there finds a friend he has already known and a few new allies.

Not long after he enters the camp he is sent out on a mission. He takes his best friend Grover and his new ally Annabeth. Together they must find and return Zeus's master lightning bold, return stolen property of Hades, and at the same time figure out who has betrayed him and made him the prime suspect of the thefts.

To top things off, while all of this is happening Percy is having horrible dreams. He is being called to the pits of hell, without any understanding of why. He must piece together all information and unravel the truth, all the while keeping himself and his beloved friends safe.

The movie is horrible. It has used events from all of the books, but has massacred the entire premise of the series. The movie has killed off important characters, who do not even die in the books. The movie has added characters that were intentionally left out of the books. The movie has left out important and lovable characters that strengthen the story line. The movie has changed the entire plot of the series. There is no way they can make another Percy Jackson movie, unless they trash their first attempt and begin from scratch.

I'm sorry Logan Lerman, you are absolutely perfect for the part of Percy Jackson, and the damned movie industry has ruined any chance of a saga with a strong following.

The books are great! The movie sucks! The end.

You Say Illusion, I Say Magic

Marianne Curley has written a timeless love story. The love of two teenagers, innocent and uncertain. Do you remember the first time you fell in love? Do you remember how insecure you felt, asking yourself questions: should I hold his/her hand? Should I kiss him/her? Should I tell him/her I love him/her? Well, this book has all of those feelings, emotions, and events. It also has magic.

Kate is a witch, she has been raised in the craft. Her powers are not very strong, but she can reach inside your head and get a "feel" for your emotions. She cannot read your thoughts, but can tell if you are happy, sad, angry... and so on.

Kate's grandmother knows the ways of old magic. She is very strong, some call her a healer. She runs the local occult shop, but only the true witches know that's what it is. To everyone else they sell a little bit of this and a little bit of that. You need something odd, that's where you go.

Jarrod is the new kid, he's a bit klutzy, actually he makes Bella Swan of Twilight look like a graceful ballerina. He could fall off of a chair that he was strapped onto, tightly. Despite his lack of coordination he is very pleasing to the eyes. This is what gives him an in with the "popular" crowd.

Kate will not have this though, for she knows he is special and in danger. Jarrod has no idea he comes form a very long line of witches and they have been cursed. But, with Kate and her grandmothers help he must travel back in time to try to fix the curse placed upon his family centuries ago.

Can they travel back in time? If they can how will they make it back home? And during there time in the past how will they defeat the evil sorcerer who has placed the curse on his family?

This is a young adult book and is a very easy read. It definitely has a lot of innocence to it, not dark at all. I would call it fluffy with quite a bit of suspense. I enjoyed my time with this book.

Change Of The Season

SHHHHHHHHHHH, Can You Keep A Secret?

First time author, Becca Fitzpatrick, has definitely knocked the ball right out of the park! She has built a world full of humans, immortals, and fallen angels.

Throughout the book you have no idea who to trust. There is no way to decipher who is playing on what team. You are left hanging, until the very end.

Nora is a normal high school student with a not-so-normal best friend named Vee. She has recently lost her father and her mother is away often on business. She does very well in school, but has very little interest in boys -- until Patch enters her life.

Patch is very mysterious, dangerous, and the all around "bad boy". Once he enters her life though, she can't seem to think about anyone or anything but him. The weird thing is he seems to know everything about Nora and be everywhere that she is. This confuses Nora, she fears for her life because of him, but feels completely safe when she is around him.

Then there is Jules and Elliot... what to say about this pair of weirdos. Jules seems a bit stuck up, but he is definitely hiding something. Elliot seems really super nice, maybe a bit desperate. I guess you could say he is like Ben from The Secret Life Of The American Teenager, way to bent on the object of his affection. In Elliot's case that object just happens to be Nora, the girl who is attracted to the mysterious Patch.

Needless to say there is somewhat of a love triangle, which always involves a fight. There is also a few villains to this story, but that is information i will not divulge. You will have to read the book to find out any more information. All I can say is that everything that happens will be the last thing you had ever expected.

Good job Becca, you definitely have mad skills.

I'm So Not Talking About The Wicked Witch Of The West

I am an absolute fan of The Wicked Series by Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie. When i purchased the books they were in a bind-up bundle. Witch and Curse may be one book, but I only plan to review Witch for now.

Holly Cathers is an average girl from San Fransisco. She lives at home with her parents who live a normal, happy existence. She has a best friend named Tina who is also a normal, average girl. But all of that is about to change.

Holly's family and friend are killed in a rafting accident, she is the only survivor. She is sent to live with her Aunt Marie-Claire and her cousins, Amanda and Nicole. Everything there seems normal enough, but it's not home. Soon her sorrow leads her down an unimaginable path that not even her aunt or cousins knew existed.

Holly and her cousins are soon thrown into a world full of magic, witchcraft and a destiny that none of them asked for.

It all begins with Nicole and her boyfriend Eli, brother to the boy that Holly is totally jonesen for. I guess you wouldn't call it that. It is almost as though a magnetic force field is pulling Holly towards Jeraud Deveraux... without either of them controlling it.

Through the Deveraux brothers the girls are pulled into a very dark, risky, and down right nasty battle for their lives. Who survives in this five book series?

This book is pretty dark, but not as dark as the rest in the series. The girls have a lot of hard decisions to make and a lot of unforeseen results and outcomes. I think Nancy and Debbie have a very unique writing style and they also make you THINK. Some of the book is written in french, I myself do not know any french. Some parts I was able to decipher, others I had to look up. But in the end it was all worth it.
